The Kontiki Swift is a classic camper-van, and this one has provided us with many happy holidays in Spain and the UK. It is big enough to accomodate all 5 of us in relative comfort, yet still small enough to negotiate country lanes and to park without difficulty. (We have never used campsites, always parking at the side of the road and never experiencing any problems.) With a bigger van you are more conspicuous, you can’t fit into the supermarket car parks, and you have a more expensive time both on the cross-channel ferry and on the roads. Besides using more fuel, big vehicles with double-axles have to pay bigger tolls on the autopistas.
The van is D reg (1986). It is right-hand drive and has a 2L Peugeot petrol engine. It has a British MOT and tax disc (which makes it legal to drive in Europe). The bodywork is sound, and there are no other problems.
There are 3 double berths, including one above the cab. The toilet cubicle is fitted with a sink and shower. There is a gas cooker with three burners, a grill, and a rather inefficient oven. If you are planning to spend the winter in Southern Spain you probably won't need the gas heater - but if you do, you will find that it warms the cabin very quickly. The van also has a fridge, running water, a spacious wardrobe and many other lockers.
The roof of the van is strong, and it is fitted with a good roof-rack. There is plenty of space for all the extras that you may want to carry along. We have even carried a Topper sailing dinghy up there. The bike rack on the back of the van accommodates three bicycles.
The van has seen plenty of use, and so the veneer is a little bit shabby in places and the upholstery is a bit tired. If it were immaculate we would be asking a lot more money! The going rate for an immaculate Kontiki Swift of this design is somewhere in the region of £9,000.
Because we are in a hurry to sell the vehicle we are asking only
This van has always been reliable and we are very fond of it. We are selling it because we are now setting off to travel the world by boat. If there was room on the aft deck for a vehicle we would certainly take it with us!
We would be very happy to give advice about touring Spain and about the gipsy lifestyle.
